Blog#10

The theme of our study this week is The Personalization of Learning. After understanding, I personally think that The Personalization of Learning is to use digital technology to target each student’s individual differences, interests and strengths, and needs to be helped. Make overall adjustments in order to achieve the best learning effect. I think what attracts me the most is that it allows each student to have their own learning content and learning style, which personally allows me to have a longer time to think, instead of being in a hurry.

I have used many platforms for personalized learning. In fact, the most frequent contact with personalized learning for me was when I was in China. At that time, I was learning English. At that time, there were many mobile apps that provided training for memorizing words. , one of the apps is called “baicizhan”, this app will ask you a more acceptable learning frequency before learning, such as how many words you memorize a day, and you can choose whether to intersperse previously learned words when learning new words, This also reflects that personalized learning means an approach to learning that is tailored to each student’s strengths, needs and interests.

I also recently experienced the creation of Magic Sketchpad, I tried to draw a pig, and it magically completed the drawing for me.

Blog#8 Active and Passive Learning

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ5vchaVghE

This week I learned about the concept of active and passive learning and after I understood it I thought that the difference between the two is huge. It is generally believed that the learning process initiated by the learner is called active learning, and the learning process initiated by factors other than the learner is called passive learning. Whether in work or in life, I think we should all prefer active learning.

Although passive learning has certain reasonable aspects, active learning is a positive learning attitude, and we can learn by ourselves without external forces. , I think that active learning is more efficient than passive learning, and passive learning is more about being forced to learn. In addition to this, in terms of staying power, active learners are able to concentrate longer and be able to explore themselves. In passive learning, learners are easily distracted.

There are advantages and disadvantages in the attributes of everything, and there are opposites. Maybe some students will adapt to passive learning, which may make them feel at ease, because the overall direction is controlled by the teacher.

Assignment 3: Core Multimedia Skills

For this assignment, I consider the current understanding of multimedia learning principles, using the infographic in Blog4 as the basis for reflecting on aspects of production that are not reasonable enough, and embedding new theories learned later to update and improve the way of showing the theory of Teaching Presence.
When I first used Visme to create the infographic, I did not have enough experience and did not consider that the infographic should be more concise and convenient for presenting ideas and conveying information, and in addition, I realized in the feedback of the assignment that Italic text is harder to read and so on.

This is the previous infographic on teaching presence:

My initial infographic was overloaded with textual content, although the color scheme was bright and contrasting, the presentation of the content was not suitable for the audience’s understanding and memory, and later I felt that presenting a viewpoint or concept to the audience in an infographic way might be less engaging for the audience than a video. Maybe infographic can’t include some of the more complicated concepts very well, I feel that because of its characteristics, I can’t add a lot of text description, but too simple to fully explain the concept, so I made a short video to better explain to the audience.

Teaching Presence

Accessibility

I believe that educational media or software should be designed to meet the needs of all people, such as people with dyslexia, or people with visual impairment, and short videos provide both audio and images, so I think that through video people can observe the main points in the video and listen to the narration at the same time.

Mayer’s segmentation principle

By using Mayer’s segmentation principle when producing this Storytelling with Video type of short video makes the video feel clearer because it is presented in segments, which allows the viewer to control the pace of their learning.

And the overall color is relatively soft, which makes people feel more at ease. In addition, I think through the video, the viewer can feel more immersed in something new, and thus become interested in it.
