Privacy vs. Security: Understanding the Difference | AuditBoard

What kind of privacy expectations should students have?

I would think as a current student who takes online class, I believe that appearing on camera in class or during exams should be strictly protected. Students who are home schooled may appear on camera and unconsciously reveal information about their identity, such as financial status or religious beliefs, to their professors and other students. Failure to protect such privacy can lead to potential bias and other inappropriate behavior.

When is it acceptable or appropriate for institutions or instructors to engage in actions or to use tools that may challenge student privacy?

I believe that institutions or instructors can appropriately use video cameras to ensure the smooth conduct of examinations under the premise of privacy protection of students, the main problem is how to eliminate the problem of improper screen recording, which is a more important point to solve the problem of privacy protection

As for finding privacy policies of the University of Victoria, I think it is not difficult to find them, they are relatively easy to access, and their content is relatively straightforward, and their views are clearly stated. It states on its website that it “only collects personal information that is directly related to and necessary for the operation of our programs and activities” and you can see that it “has internal policies and procedures in place to clarify how it complies with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act”.

However, before searching for these policies, I personally did not know anything about these policies and how the University protects our personal information from disclosure. But in the specific policy can be seen on the University’s privacy policy is very comprehensive, including a very wide range of aspects.

One of these is “Safeguards for Personal Information,” which indicates that the University will protect personal information in its custody or control from unauthorized access and collection by making reasonable security arrangements. Reasonable security arrangements are in place to protect against the risk of unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure or disposal. Risk of Use, Disclosure or Disposal. This also eliminated my previous concerns about student privacy protection measures.

self-reflection

The reason I chose this activity is that I have not been paying much attention to my privacy as a student, and there is basically no research in this area, so I think this activity will help me to have some understanding of how my privacy is protected.
